Soverato, another village, just moments away, is known as the gem of the Ionian Sea and is one of tourists’ favourite destinations. This town, the third largest of Calabria, hosts one of the most popular markets of the region where you can find a plethora of bargains. There is also a food market every Friday and a daily fish market. The numerous designer boutiques and jewellers in the pedestrian centre which overlooks the lovely Gulf of Squillace, will delight shoppers. Soverato is packed with bars, restaurants and clubs and, in the summer, there is a nightly funfair on its beautiful white beach.

Activities:
Home owners at San Rocco Beach club are invited to become members of the nearby Sports Centre which boasts an Olympic size pool, a fitness zone with aerobic room, dance and step classes, exercise bikes, running and weight machines. The second floor of the building has its own sports shop and an internet cafe, games room and sky television. There is also a beautiful new marina in town. The facility already hosts 300 berths and a further expansion is underway. Boats can be hired and trips out on to the Ionian Sea arranged as well as the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of watersports. The area is ideal for divers with riches galore beneath the surface. A rare reef of black coral was discovered recently and there is much on offer for the amateur archaeologist too.

Food and Local specialities:
The cuisine of Soverato area reflects the Calabrian gastronomy with its typical dishes, simple but rich of strong and genuine tastes, which comes from its country and sea long tradition. The Calabrian ground gives special olives, citruses, vegetables and wine, which characterize in an unmistakable way the tastes of the typical dishes. In particular, at Soverato, you will find fish or meat dishes, vegetables prepared in various ways, local cheeses, salami and cold pork meat. You must try the ‘scilatelle’ (hand-made pasta similar to big spaghetti) with tomato and basil, the ‘bujhularo’ (sliced lard) with sweet red pepper, the delicious courgette fritters and the courgette flowers. Among the fish main courses, the most famous are ‘stoccafisso con le patate’ (stockfish with potatoes) and the ‘alga ciciaredda’, a kind of fried blue fish.

Access:
San Rocco Beach Club is located in the south east of Italy in the sunny region of Calabria.

By air: Lamezia Terme is the closest airport (50mn away from San Rocco) and the fastest way to get to Isca marina. Budget airlines serve the airport which is two hours fly time from most of the major European cities. Airberlin flies directly to Lamezia Terme from London Stansted every Wednesday from May to October and also flies to Naples three times a week in the same period. There, you can rent a car, take a bus or a train for Isca.

By car: In order to reach San Rocco Beach Club, once arrived to Rome with the A1 motorway, take the A3 Salerno – Reggio Calabria as far as Lamezia Terme-Catanzaro exit. From here, take the S.S. 848 towards Soverato, then the E-90 up to the exit for the town.

By train: Nearby Stations at Badolato and Sant’ Andrea Apostolo dello Jonio have a good train connection to/from all major Italian towns and cities. Soverato station is also on the Ionic railway.
